Trevelyan College was founded in 1966 and was named after George Macauley Trevelyan, a British historian and academic who served as Chancellor of Durham University in his retirement. Our history shapes who we are as a college and what we’re building for tomorrow…
Mission of Trevs MCR
Trevelyan initially opened as an all-women’s college in order to promote greater diversity within the university. As Trevelyan’s postgraduate community, we recognise the inherently valuable perspectives that each person holds as we strive to create an environment that embraces the power in sharing who we are with one another to challenge and encourage ourselves and our respective communities.

“Trevelyan is a small, progressive college known for its friendliness — and its distinctively hexagonal architecture. Trevelyan College encourages every student to venture out of their comfort zone and be the best that they can be, promoting an environment of support, inclusion and curiosity.”
